Kylan and I 2003 (he was 2 yrs old) |
Deena with Makenzie and Devin in 2003 (they were both 3 yrs old) |
2004 was a rough year, my step Dad had just passed away the month before this and I think we were all still in shock but traditions help with consistency in childrens lives!
2005 |
The recipe we use is from my step-mom Deena and everyone always ooohs and awwws over it but it's all I've ever known!
Deena's Sugar Cookies
3/4 cup shortening
3/4 cup butter
1/2 tsp vanilla
2 tsp baking powder
5 cup flour
4 eggs
2 cups sugar
2 tsp salt
Cream shortening, sugar and butter together, add eggs and vanilla and mix well. Add dry ingredients and mix well. Chill for 1 hour then roll out onto floured surface until 1/4" think. Cut out with holiday cutters
Cook at 350 degrees for ONLY 5-7 min. and NO LONGER then 7 min. Cool and decorate!
The pictures are from Christmas Eve's in the past (please ignore my messy kitchen because we were having too much fun baking).
2006 this was the year we learned that Makenzie's hair could actually be curly if we tried hard enough...LOL! She had to have spiral curls for cheerleading and it was a pain in the patootie! |
2007 was the year that Kylan broke his little arm and was in a camo cast! |
2008, Kylan wasn't afraid to get his hands dirty! |
2008, Gigi helped us with the cookies that year! |
2008 this was the year Makenzie discovered that she liked to decorate cookies, cakes, cupcakes, etc |
2009 the kids can almost make the cookies and decorate them without me now! |
Makenzie's REALLY into decorating and cooking in 2009 check out the flour on her face!
This year 2010 she has asked for cake decorating supplies for Christmas...who knew they were so expensive??? Not me! Thank goodness for Hobby Lobby coupons!
I hope you enjoyed our Christmas Cookies tradition thru the years!

Your kiddos are super cute! I love the one of your daughter with flour all over her. Sugar cookies really are the best. I am not any good at decorating them, so I rarely make them. Yours look good. :)
Jen, I LOVED seeing the pictures of them through the years. How neat!
I need to make a tradition like this with my girls before it's too late.
Thank you for sharing the recipe. I love sugar cookies!
Oh, and I just noticed you did change your blog name! I just love it!
I don't know you IRL but I loved looking at your pics from over the years. What a great idea! Sounds like you've got a well-established tradition and that's awesome!
I love a good sugar cookie story :) thanks for linking!!
Great post! Love all the pics. Can you believe how fast time flies?!
Making sweet Christmas memories is what it's all about :)
PS I hope you have kept all your holiday sweaters! I gave mine all away :(
what wonderful photos...thanks for sharing the years with us. I love that they have this as one of the things they will always remember. LOL for us it is cooking making factory as it is gifts to hand out too. We have started on the jellies this year but waiting on college girl to get home for break to do all the cookies. Wonder if we will break the 63 dozen record?
I LOVE fun traditions. That last pic is so cute...love the flour on her forehead! The recipe sounds great!
