Reading Eggs is a fun, online supplemental program designed for 4-8 years olds. It was designed by teachers, animators, educational writers and web developers to help your new reader enjoy learning to read. There is also a companion site for older children ages 7-13 and it's called Reading Express. Reading Express has over 700 books in the library, over 200 comprehension lessons, a 100 level quest style game and a stadium that you can compete against other players in real time around the globe.
The first thing you need to do when you sign up is have your child take an assessment or if your child doesn't have any reading skills they can start at the very beginning. After that each child has their own map and they just follow the dots, each dot represents a different sound or combination. An animated figure helps the child through each lesson and they must have answered at least 7 questions correctly before moving on to a connect the dot activity for each sound. Now the biggest part of the program is reading an E-book, the books have audio support and you are able to print them out if needed. At the end of each lesson the kids get to crack open an egg which reveals a critter. Each "critter" is designed around the letter that your child has just learned about and they get to keep them and add on new critters. They can also earn eggs that are similar to money, they can decorate their place, buy new costumes or clothes.
My son is older so he really enjoyed the Reading Express which is geared for his age group, he loves playing the fun games and he's already read so many of the books in the library! He told me that it kind of reminds him of Webkinz World but with learning and he loves that he can play against other children from around the world. Thanks for reading,
